Hiking the Appalachian Trail: Connecticut Adventure (2026)

Today's adventure takes us to Connecticut, a state that holds a special place in our journey. After a much-needed rest, we bid farewell to New York and embarked on a new chapter. The day began with an easy mile, a gentle reminder of the trails ahead. Crossing into Connecticut, we celebrated entering our tenth state, a milestone that called for a relaxed pace and some much-needed foot care.

My new hiking shoes, though comfortable, required a bit of adjustment, a reminder that even the most well-equipped journeys have their challenges. We took a break by a river, a refreshing dip for our weary feet, and enjoyed a peaceful mile along its banks. A short detour to a covered bridge added a touch of adventure to our hike.

As we climbed, the trail became steeper, and today, Shooter and I felt particularly sluggish. A fall into some brush served as a humble reminder of the trail's challenges. But the view from the top was rewarding, a moment to appreciate the surrounding countryside and connect with fellow hikers.

The last few miles into Kent were a test of endurance, with steep ups and downs. We made our way to a convenience store, rehydrating with cold drinks before heading to the outfitter. Although we arrived just after closing, it was a minor setback. We continued to Cozzy's on Main, a welcome spot for burgers and pizza, where we refueled and recharged.

After dinner, we resupplied at the grocery store and hit the trail again, determined to reach the Stewart Hollow Brook Shelter before nightfall. The hike along the Housatonic River provided a beautiful backdrop, a peaceful end to a challenging day.

In my opinion, today's hike was a testament to the ups and downs of long-distance trekking. It's a journey that requires resilience and adaptability, and those moments of refreshment and connection along the way make it all the more rewarding. Personally, I think it's these challenges and triumphs that define the trail experience, and I'm excited to see what Connecticut has in store for us next.
